Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: WHY IS POLE DANCING GOOD FOR YOU?

A: There are many physical, emotional and social benefits from attending regular Pole dancing classes:

  • Sculpt and tone your upper and lower body particularly the arms, tummy, shoulders, thighs and bottom

  • Burns fat

  • Increases flexibility and co-ordination

  • Promotes muscle endurance and stamina

  • Increases bone density

  • Improves core strength allowing you to perform everyday tasks with greater ease

  • Boost your self confidence and feel a sense of achievement

  • Build greater self esteem

  • Alleviate stress with regular exercise that “really is” fun

Q: HOW DO YOU STAY ON THE POLE?

A: There's no magic trick to it - it's simply bare skin on a brass or silver pole. If your hands are a little bit slippery, we can recommend products to improve your grip on the pole, we sell these at the studio.

Q: DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO DANCE?

A: No. You can pole dance even if you've never been to a dance class before. We assume that our absolute beginners have no dance experience at all. We'll teach you all the basics.

Q: DO I NEED TO BE STRONG AND FLEXIBLE?

A: No - you will build your strength and improve your flexibility over the course of the term. We design our pole dance courses to include conditioning and stretching in each class, to help you to develop your pole skills safely. It doesn't matter if you can't touch your toes or hold your own body weight - after all, you're here to improve!

Q: AM I TOO OLD?

A: Never! Phoenix Pole Studios is extremely proud of its diverse clientele with ages ranging from sixteen years right through to seventy years of age. With a healthy attitude, we believe anything is achievable. Whether you’re bored of the usual gym routine, looking to lose that post baby fat, unwind from work or studies, tone up, lose fat, socialise, or simply looking to try something new, Phoenix Pole Studios courses are helping women and men of all ages, sizes and ability levels feel great, empowered and look good.

Q: HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT LEVEL I SHOULD BE IN?

A: Take a look at our class descriptions page to get an idea. If you're not sure, book in for a grading session so you can be assessed for the correct level. The instructor will give you harder or easier moves in the grading session to work out which level is right for you, this will ensure that you enroll into the correct class.

Q: WHAT DOES A TYPICAL POLE DANCING CLASS INVOLVE?

A: A one hour Pole dancing session includes a thorough warm up, core conditioning and cool down however, the main class component involves learning different “pole skills” which are later linked and developed into a mini combination or routine. “Pole skills” learnt depend on the level undertaken and vary from learning how to spin, climb or hang. To ensure muscular strength and balance are achieved and maintained, pole skills are practiced using both sides of the body. Courses are conducted with an emphasis on technique, safe practice and with the desire to educate students on correct muscle use.

Q: WHAT ABOUT ALL THE NON-POLE CLASSES, WHAT ARE THEY?

A: Take a look at our class descriptions page to see what these classes are all about. These classes are specialised classes to help you work on particular skills.

Q: CAN I ORGANISE A PAYMENT PLAN?
A: Our memberships and class passes are all pre-paid and we currently do not have a split payment booking system. However, do not hesitate to contact us and discuss your options. We will do our best to accommodate.

Q: WHAT DO I WEAR TO A POLE CLASS?

A: Whatever you feel comfortable in. You can wear gym clothes and trainers, or hot pants and heels! We recommend you wear shorts, unless you are attending an absolute beginners class (in which case you can wear long pants if you really want to). As you progress through the levels, you will find that many of the more advanced moves require more skin to pole contact. For these moves, shorts and a singlet work better. High heels are not compulsory in our classes. Our teachers wear them, but whether or not you do is completely up to you.

Please DO NOT wear/apply to your body (including hands) any oils or creams on the day of your pole class as this will affect your grip on the pole.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A CLASS?

A: Please be aware that we do not offer transfers or refunds for your term fees once any payment has been received. Please consider your classes carefully before booking. We are a small business and we keep our class sizes small so that the students get a better experience. If you need to miss a class, please cancel your booking online in our booking system. You must give minimum 24 hours notice of cancellation to get your credit back, otherwise you will forfeit the class. If you have cancelled within the time limit, your credit will be returned to your account and you can book another class. With our class passes, we do not extend the validity of your credits that you haven't used. It is your responsibility to make sure you do all your classes before the expiry of your Class Pass.
